Despite missing the first 43 games of the seas
on, Steve Kerr (of the Golden State Warriors) has been named the NBA's Coach of the Year for the 2015-16 season.
Kerr had to sit out the first part of the season, as he recovered from offseason back surgery, with interim coach Luke Walton posting a record of 39-4 in his absence.
He ultimately won the balloting, due to both his coaching and role in building the culture that put the Warriors on a path for a record-setting 73 wins.
Kerr received 64 first-place votes and 381 points in balloting, beating out Portland's Terry Stotts (second with 335 points) and Spurs' Gregg Popovich (third with 166 points). Walton tied for eighth with 5 points.
Last year, Kerr finished second in Coach of the Year balloting behind Atlanta's Mike Budenholzer last season.
