Chance the Rapper was been named one of five people honored by Chicago Magazineas "Chicagoan of the Year".
The magazine points to the rapper's rise in the music industry, his family life and concern for the community as reasons for giving him the honor.
In the accompanying piece, Chance talks about fatherhood, and how it's chanced his life.
"When you become a parent, you start loving diapers. Going into it, I was like, 'I'm not trying to change no sh*tty diapers,' " he admits. "But when you leave the hospital, they tell you to count how many poops they take and how many pees. It's like, 'High five, another poop, we don't have to go back to the hospital!' "
Chance goes on to explain how it changed him in other ways. "Anywhere past age 13—10 if you live in Chicago -- you have a relationship with death as you've seen it depicted in media, or around you, if you've watched somebody die," he says. "Until you have your own seed -- and this is just me being religious -- come from God and come to you ..."
