After just two seasons, the Los Angeles La
kers are parting ways with coach Byron Scott.
During his tenure as head coach, the Lakers had the two worst seasons in the franchise's history. The team went 17-65 for the NBA's second-worst record this season.
Sources tell ESPN that the Lakers did recognize that it was "impossible" to evaluate Scott based on the talent level on the team the past two years, but they felt the team needs a new vision for the future, one embracing the current style of wide-open play and outside shooting.
Scott's contract included a team option for next season, but was tied to performance incentives that he did not meet.
"We would like to thank Byron for his hard work, dedication and loyalty over the last two years but have decided it is in the best interest of the organization to make a change at this time," Kupchak said in a statement.
