Dr. Dre Sells Off Stake In 'Beats By' To HTC For $300 Million

Although Jay-Z was just named Forbes' Hip-Hop Cash King for 2011, it looks like Dr. Dre is coming for Hov's throne ... and may just do that for 2012, thanks to a recently finalized deal the super producer just made.
In a newly announced deal, Dre has sold off a majority stake in his Beats Electronics to Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, HTC ... for a reported $309 million.
Via the deal, the smartphone maker will acquire 51% of the company, which Dre co-founded with Interscope Geffen A&M Records CEO Jimmy Iovine in 2006.
"The HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre partnership is an opportunity for two world-class companies to redefine the smartphone industry and define the future," said Iovine of the deal. "For Beats by Dr. Dre, this represents a critical step in our continued mission to clean up the destruction of audio caused by the digital revolution and reengineer how sound is delivered, so the consumer feels the music the way that the artist intended."
Since its launch, Beats has rolled out several lines of celebrity-branded headphones -- including products with Lady Gaga, Diddy, and Lebron James.
Through the deal, HTC plans to incorporate Beats technology into their phones by the end of the year. Dr. Dre and Iovine will continue to operate Beats autonomously.

Reggie Bush, Dolphins agree to two-year deal

Reggie Bush is set to join the Miami Dolphins, agreeing to a new contract with the team that allows them to complete a trade with the New Orleans Saints.
The Dolphins and Bush’s agent, Joel Segal, worked overnight and into the morning to hammer out a two-year deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported that the Saints and Dolphins agreed to the terms of a trade late last night.
Bush will now head to Miami, take his physical, sign his contract and officially become a Dolphin.
In five seasons since the Saints took him with the second overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft, Bush had 524 carries for 2,090 yards and 17 touchdowns, plus another 294 catches for 2,142 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.

Chad Ochocinco Will Live With A Fan To Start Off NFL Season With Pats

Nearly two weeks ago, NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco became the newest New England Patriot. However, he's still getting used to his new city ... and is taking an unusual approach to his living situation.
Instead of finding a new residence within the city, he plans to live with a fan. Yes, you heard right.
Ochocinco told ESPN this week that he wants to live with a fan for the first first week of the upcoming NFL season.
"I'm going to do something different, I'm actually going to stay with a fan for the first two, three weeks of the season," he said. "That should be fun, until I get myself acclimated and learn my way around."
The fan he's going to stay with is still undecided though, but there's one thing they must have -- an Xbox.
"I'm not sure how it's going to work, but they have to have Internet. They have to have Xbox," Ochocinco explained. "That's about it."
So far, he doesn't know his way around New England, but hopes a fan can show him around, because he doesn't like to find out the traditional ways, such as using a navigation device.
"The way I learn a new city is by traveling out, adventuring out, getting lost on purpose," said Ochocinco. "This past weekend, I was a little frustrated because I was lost for about an hour, an hour and 30 minutes, and I couldn't get where I needed to. (But) that's it. Boston, or actually heaven, has been good."

Beanie Sigel Admits To Not Paying Taxes, Faces Prison Time

Former Roc-A-Fella Records signee, Beanie Sigel, has gotten into some trouble recently and could see time behind bars, after admitting thay he filed to pay taxes over six years ago.
According to ABC News Philly, the 37-year-old rapper (real name: Dwight Grant) entered a plea in Philadelphia's federal court on Tuesday (August 9), where he reported admitted to not filing or paying taxes from 2003 to 2005.
Prosecutors claim Beans owes around $350,000 on $1 million of unreported income. However, his defense lawyer Fortunato Perri Jr. plans to challenge those numbers.
Beanie Sigel could face up to three years in prison, when he's sentenced November 18th.

As far as music, it's been four years since he dropped his last solo album, titled The Solution, via Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam.

Damon Dash Admits To Tax Problems, Explains Situation

The money problems of former Roc-A-Fella co-founder, Damon Dash, has been reported by publications for the last five years now. From home foreclosures to issues with his taxes, it's no secret the former partner of Jay-Z has been hurting ... and he's the first to admit it.
last month that he owes the IRS over $3 million. The 40-year-old businessman admitted that the reports are true during a recent interview with MTV's Sway, but he says the number is a little off.
Dash says its actually more. During a radio interview for Sway Calloway's "Sway in the Morning" show on Shade 45, he discussed his financial troubles.
"I owe way more than $2 million in taxes," he tells Sway.
"That must've just been the IRS," Dash added, laughing. "Nah, nah, I'm f***ed up."
According to Dame, the IRS is auditing him, and his books aren't exactly precise, and ultimately, he's gonna have to pay. However, to him, it's the price of business.
"They're auditing me," Dame explained. "When you're a business man, you have a lot of businesses, a lot of times they think you're laundering money or you're pretending you're writing things off that you don't. I'm a true businessman. As you know, I believe in my independence, I have no partners, so every dollar I make goes right back into every business I have.
"If I have an accountant that just reports I just invested $10 million in my business and he doesn't exactly itemize where every cost goes, it gives a red flag to the government," he continued. "They want to make sure that the reason I'm not paying taxes is because I'm reinvesting in these businesses and not trying to hide stuff."

Soulja Boy Planning Removal Of Face Tattoos

Over the past week, Soulja Boy has been making headlines for things other than his music -- the biggest being the controversy of a fabricated story about purchasing a $55 private jet.
Now, the 21-year-old is in the news for yet another non-music related topic, his tattoos. In a tweet to fans on Thursday morning (August 4), the rapper revealed that he's begun the process of removing the tattoos from his face.
Soulja Boy's face tattoos include "SODMG," the acronym for his Stacks On Deck Money Gang label above his left eyebrow; the phrase "A LIFE" above his right; Chinese characters down his left cheek; and a cross under his right eye.
All of them are going bye-bye.
"Just woke in new york its a good day bless everybody reading this tweet live it up," the rapper wrote (@SouljaBoy). "I'm getting my face tattoos removed today."
What brought upon the decision is unknown.
However, as Soulja Boy gets older and wants to venture into other forms of entertainment, possibly movies, face tattoos probably won't help.
The rapper has yet to surface in new photos without his face tatts.

Kevin Durant Lights Up Rucker Park With 66-Point Performance

The NBA lockout isn't keeping some of the league's players from competing. Young scoring phenom, Kevin Durant, played in an Entertainers Basketball Classic game on Monday (August 1) at Harlem's famed Rucker Park ... and put on a show. The reigning NBA scoring champion lit up the crowd with a 66-point performance, which included five straight threes in the fourth quarter of the game.
After the game, Durant said playing at the Rucker has been one of his dreams all his life.
"I've always wanted to play at Rucker Park all my life," he told one of the league's emcees, after his DC Power team beat the Sean Bell All-Stars, which featured Chicago Bulls guard John Lucas III.
The performance was two points shy of the EBC scoring record of 68, set by Steve Burtt Jr. in 2007. Joe "The Destroyer" Hammond is recognized as holding the park record with 74 points in a game.
"No lie, jus had one of the best times of my life at Rucker park..wow! I love NY...Harlem waddup," Durant tweeted (@KDTrey5) after the game.
Rucker Park is located across the street from where the Polo Grounds used to stand, and is famed for pickup games and leagues where greats such as Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant have graced the court.
With the NBA lockout dragging on, players have been participating in various streetball leagues around the country to stay in shape and on their game.
This game was just one where Durant participated.
During the game, Durant finished the first half with 23 points, but caught fire in the second half here he scored 15 points in the third quarter.
In the fourth, he went off, sinking five three pointers, despite double- and even triple-team defenses.

NFL Star Randy Moss Announces Retirement After 13 Seasons

Prolific NFL wide receiver, Randy Moss, is calling it quits after 13 seasons in the league as one of the most dynamic and exciting players the NFL has ever seen.
According to ESPN, Moss' agent Joel Segal made the announcement Monday (August 1) that the 34-year-old was considering offers from several teams, but made the decision to retire.
What offers were on the table was not revealed at press time. Segal did say that Moss just felt it was the right time to call it a day.
"Randy has weighed his options and considered the offers and has decided to retire," Segal told ESPN.
Moss leaves with some impressive career totals -- including 153 touchdowns, which ties him with Terrell Owens for second on the career list; he's fifth in yards (14,858); and is tied with Hines Ward for eighth in receptions (954).
He was also voted into the Pro Bowl six times.
Experts feel that Moss' numbers and status as one of the best deep threats in NFL history, will make him a sure-fire candidate for the Hall of Fame.
The reciever's career started with seven seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, but the Raiders didn't see the production. Nagging injuries limited his production, as well as what some saw as his unwillingness to play.
In 2007, he was dealt to the New England Patriots and re-emerged as a force, hauling in a single-season record 23 TD passes from Tom Brady to help the Patriots to a 16-0 regular season before losing to the Giants in the Super Bowl.
Moss was traded back to the Vikings in October of last season, but the reunion lasted just four weeks. Fed up with his behavior, Vikings coach Brad Childress cut Moss in November, which stunned fans and people around the league. Childress was dismissed as head coach a few weeks later.
Moss finished the season with eight games in Tennessee, but made little impact with the Titans. He caught just six passes during his time down south.
While his agent said he was training hard during the summer, it seemed as though something had changed. What exactly is unknown.

The pint-sized female rap pioneer has reported inked a deal with Universal Music Group, showing up as an artist on the roster on the label's official website, UniversalMusic.com.
However, details about Kim's deal with UMG is currently unknown.
It marks Kim's first major label deal since parting ways with Atlantic Records years ago -- where she released her last three albums, 2000's The Notorious K.I.M., 2003's La Bella Mafia, and 2005's The Naked Truth.
the rapper is hard at work on a new album, which includes the new yet-to-be-released single "Looks Like Money."
The as-yet-titled project is expected later this year.

Soulja Boy's Rep Says Private Jet Purchase Is 'Not True'

Soulja Boy knows how to spark a media blitz ... and do so last week, when his "management" told he just copped a $55 million private jet for himself to celebrate his birthday.
Well, as many expected, it wasn't not true, despite the rapper, himself, playing along with the story.
Soulja's publicist, Greg Miller, issued a statement to saying that the "elaborate rumors" are "not true" despite previous claims from his management.
Last week, spoke to the rapper, and two members of his team (including Shai Storm and his assistant), who all claimed that the 21-year-old just dropped the cash on a $35 million jet, and planned $20 million in upgrades, all in celebration of his birthday.
Although it was a joke played on the media, Soulja Boy played along, telling when they spoke to him, "Hell yeah ... I bought it." He also bragged about his "G5 status" during a visit to a radio station.
Oh well, he got a lot of attention for it, so it apparently worked.
Soulja Boy celebrated his 21st in Miami on Friday, reportedly blowing $300,000 on the bash, and even made it rain (see the video below).

Chad Ochocino Officially Becomes A New England Patriot

Flamboyant NFL star, Chad Ochocinco, officially became a New England Patriot on Friday (July 29) ... and was present at their camp before the news was even announced.
Earlier in the day, the now-former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver was seen having a long conversation with quarterback Tom Brady and offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien behind Gillette Stadium, reports ESPN.
Despite his colorful personality, his new teammates know the talent he brings to the team and hope for a fruitful season playing alongside him.
"I've known Chad for a long time, I've watched him for a long time. He brings a lot of energy to the team, and we're looking forward to everyone being out here and trying to get better," Brady said told the sports network. "Trying to see what we can make of this year. ... [Ochocinco has] been a very prolific receiver; I think he's had a bunch of production over the years.
"Hopefully he can come in here and find a role on this team, like we're all trying to do. We're all trying to come out here and see what we can make of this year, see what kind of role we can make for ourselves," he continued.
The Patriots officially announced that they had acquired Ochocinco for "undisclosed draft considerations," but sources told ESPN that the Bengals will receive two draft picks, a 2012 fifth-rounder and a 2013 sixth-rounder, to complete the trade.
Ochocinco was scheduled to make $6.35 million for the Bengals this year. The Patriots wanted him to restructure his contract for salary-cap purposes, and he agreed to facilitate the trade.
After chatting with Brady Friday, the receiver went right to work, learning the offense he'll be playing this year. But, because the trades were not officially complete, Ochocinco was not allowed to practice with the team.
The team wasn't able to comment on the trade, until, it's finalized.
Ochocinco tweeted (@Ochocinco) about it though, writing: "It's 1 thing to jump and be able to land on 2 feet, but I had no idea I was landing in Heaven. Hope all is well on this good Friday."
ESPN says that he may have worked a deal with Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez to be able to wear his usual #85. Hernandez was seen wearing #81 shorts, while Ochocinco had on a #85 warmup shirt.

Soulja Boy Drops $55 Million On Custom Private Jet

Everyone knows Soula Boy made big money off ringtones when he dropped his breakout hit, "Crank That (Soulja Boy)", four years ago ... but no one knew the 21-year-old had stacks like this.
the rapper recently dropped $55 million on a new private jet.
Apparently, Soulja Boy bought a Gulfstream G5 jet as a birthday present to himself. He just turned 21 this Thursday (July 28) ... and it looks like, he knows how to celebrate.
Talk about pimping your ride... the jet cost just $35 million, but the young rapper is dropping another $20 million for customization -- including 12 custom Italian leather seats, flat screen TVs, four liquor bars, a special travertine tiled floor, and Brazilian hardwood cabinets.
That's not all either. He's demo-ing the in-flight lavatory, and replacing it with a giant, LUXURIOUS bathroom. AND ... is giving it a custom paint job with his logo on it.
On top of the excessive birthday present, Soulja is throwing a lavish birthday blowout in Miami this Friday evening, spending around $300,000

The Game Wants To Sign With Cash Money After Deal With Interscope Is Up

The Game has been down with Interscope since breaking onto the scene in 2005, but when his deal is up ... he may be moving to another label, down south.
The Compton rapper recently revealed to XXLMag.com that he's been contemplating a move after his deal with Jimmy I's Interscope is up.
With only one more album left, following the release of his upcoming R.E.D. Album, Game says that he plans to sign with Birdman's Cash Money Records.
"We been playing with the idea of going over to Cash Money, or trying to marry that and Black Wall Street," the rapper said. "So, we'll figure it out before the end of the day. I definitely think that's where I'll probably end up. Cause they winning, they want to win and I been winning and want to continue to win."
The Game tells the mag that he's known Birdman before his debut, The Documentary, dropped. He was introduced to the YMCMB boss back when NBA player Baron Davis was on the New Orleans Hornets. Davis is the godfather to Game's son and he connected the two, who have been tight ever since.
"I talk to Baby everyday," he said.
When it'll happen, is still unknown. But, when Birdman wants something he usually gets it. Over the past year, the hip-hop mogul has recruited Bow Wow, DJ Khaled, and producer duo, Cool & Dre.
The R.E.D. Album drops August 23.

New Orleans Rap Pioneer Dies At 39

Another hip-hop artist has passed. New Orleans-based rapper Tim Smooth passed away on Tuesday (July 26) after a long battle with throat cancer.
He was just 39 years old.
The rapper (real name: Timothy Smoot) first burst onto the Louisiana hip-hop scene in the 1990s as a teen, before joining legendary southern label, Rap-A-Lot Records where he released the Too Cool-assisted Straight Up Drivin' Em album.
Smooth went on to release four more album, his last being 2004's The Invisable Man.
"Had I never met Tim, I would be a totally different artist," platinum New Orleans rapper, Mystikal, told the Times-Picayune of his late friend. "He even co-wrote the title cut with me [in] 'Mind of Mystikal.' Thanks for the memories."
Known as "The Knight from Kennedy Heights," Smooth established himself an early pioneer of New Orleans hip-hop, and was well liked by his local peers and fans.
"I hope they remember how he was -- he was a friend to everybody, everybody loved him," his sister, Nicole Smoot, said to Nola.com. "He never had a fight in his whole life, and he was 39 years old. He was a happy person. He was always cracking jokes, and even with the cancer, he never didn't have a smile on his face."

50 Cent Cancels Album, Blames Interscope For Single Leak

It's been nearly two years since 50 Cent dropped his fourth studio album Before I Self Destruct, and it seems that the rap heavyweight is no closer to dropping what would be his fifth album than in the past. Despite a slew of viral material, moving forward seems to be tough for the rapper and his relationship with his label Interscope is suffering ... and made that very clear in a series of tweets on Wednesday morning (July 27).
After Fif's Cataracs-produced single, "I'm On It," leaked to the Internet, he expressed his anger toward Interscope (who he claims leaked it), saying he's cancelling his forthcoming album.
"Man I'm not releasing a album i can't believe interscope is this f***ed up right now. I apologize to all my fans," 50 wrote (@50Cent). "I will work with other artist on there projects but I will not put out another album. They dropped the ball with me one time to many."
He explained that he's recorded over 40 songs for his next album ... and has only turned in one to his label, and coincidentally, it's the one that made its way online.
"I don't know how I can record 41 song for my album and the one song I give interscope leaks But I don't care its good music," Fif wrote. "I hate when I can't present my music the way. I feel it should be but f*** it check out I'm ON IT."
50 Cent - I'm On It (Tags) by 50 Cent
"I LOVE DRE but I'm putting his next single psycho out tomorrow at 2:00 #SK," said Fif, before changing his mind shortly after.
"I wouldn't leak dre's record he has done nothing but help me in my career. jimmy has always been supportive of me."

Shortly before, Smith stepped outside of the group's headquarters in Washington at about 2 p.m. to announce that players approved the pact.

So, it's looks like football has a green light!

Lil Mama Breaks Down In Tears, After Charlamagne Tha God Goes In During Radio Interview

When Lil Mama broke onto the scene in 2007, with her breakout hit "Lip Gloss," her future looked bright. But, growing up in the public eye isn't always easy ... and the young celebrity has had a hard time with the transition from a teen rapper to a young adult.
The rapper visited New York City's Power 105 "Breakfast Club" morning show Wednesday morning (July 20) to talk about new music, but ended up in the hot seat and at the mercy of host Charlamagne Tha God.
Immediately after being introduced, Charlamagne went in, referring to Mama as the "Voice of the young scrubbleface" as opposed to the "Voice of the Young People" (the title of her 2008 debut album) ... and things just continued from there.
When Mama questioned his comments, the host elaborated "cause your young and you have an old face, like Drake says 'I'm really too young to be looking this old.' "
First, she sparred with Charlamagne, sending shots right back, saying his face looked like "someone stomped it."
"Yo, y'all gotta see Charlamagne's face, seriously," Lil Mama responded. "If you ever seen this guy's face, you gotta see it. It look like someone stomped it."
"I know I'm ugly, but that's what we have you here for, to..." the host said in rebuttal, before Mama interrupted, "to let people know what beauty looks like."
However, eventually, Mama couldn't take Charlamagne's verbal assault any longer, and broke down in tears, as she reflected on her mother who passed away at the beginning of her career.
"I've taken a step away from music," an emotional Lil Mama revealed. "I'm getting into the music now. My music speaks for itself. I'm not here to say what I'm gonna do. When I was seventeen years old I put out an album while my mother was dying of cancer. That right there alone is struggle. That's hard. That's tough for anybody. But my music will speak for itself. My actions will speak for itself. My mother will be proud, my father will be proud. And at the end of the day nobody can stop me. Period."
Before the interview wrapped, Mama made peace with the Power 105 staff, including Charlamagne, and vowed to win her fans back ... through her music.
Before her emotional breakdown, Mama also addressed comments she made about Nicki Minaj weeks ago, where she suggested the the YMCMB First Lady bit her style, specifically her hair style.
"The last time that we've seen any female MCs before Nicki there was me" Mama declared. "And when it came to radio interviews people were always asking 'where's the female MCs, where's the female MCs' where at this point i've stepped back from music at this moment. Still continuing with television in my career people would probably ask her that same question. So it's just a lot of controversy around being a female in Hip-Hop that a lot of time our community focuses on celebrating one female MC at a time and I think that's where it comes in at the controversy, 'who stole what style.' At the end of the day i'm talented and there's only one Lil Mama."

DMX Is A Free Man, Released From Arizona Prison & Gets Back To Work

DMX walked out of an Arizona prison on Tuesday (July 19), finally becoming a free man after months behind bars. the rapper was greeted by a small group of friends and family as he walked out from behind prison walls ... and his immediate plans -- after visiting his kids -- will be to get back to work.
"I spoke to my daughter, I just got off the phone with my wife. I'm going to go see my daughter while the sun is up then I'm going to be in the studio man," X told the website.
DMX was sentenced to one year in prison in December of 2010, after violating terms of his probation by failing court-mandated drug tests and refusing to undergo treatment and counseling.
Today, with his legal issues behind him (for now), X will focus on his career. Reps for the rapper say he's got a number of shows lined up, and is currently fielding offers for television, movie and recording projects.
As previously reported, X is also seriously considering a deal with Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group.

Ja Rule Sentenced To Two Years For Failing To Pay Taxes

Incarcerated rapper Ja Rule was in court on Monday (July 18) for sentencing in a tax evasion case.
According to the Associated Press, the rapper (real name: Jeffrey Atkins) received to more than two years in federal prison for failing to file income tax returns.
He blamed a combination of youthful inexperience, bad advice, and an inability to manage fame and fortune for his financial troubles.
"I, in no way, attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal," Ja Rule said minutes before being sentenced in a New Jersey federal court. "I was a young man who made a lot of money -- I'm getting a little choked up -- I didn't know how to deal with these finances, and I didn't have people to guide me, so I made mistakes."
He has also been ordered to pay $1.1 million in unpaid taxes.
Ja pleaded guilty to tax evasion in March, admitting that he failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million that he earned between 2004 and 2006.
The rapper was sentenced to two years in prison for a 2007 weapon possession charges in New York last month, so how will that effect his current prison stint? The AP says that U.S. Magistrate Patty Shwartz in Newark ruled that the majority of his tax evasion sentence could be served at the same time as the New York state case.
So basically, this week's sentence will be served at the same time ... and if his release date for his weapons charge comes first, he will remained jailed to serve the rest of the two-years for tax evasion. That could possibly be an extra four to 12 months.
In court Monday, Ja asked the judge for leniency.
"My business is very 'out of sight, out of mind,'" Ja told the judge. "The longer I'm away, the longer it'll take me to get back to doing what I need to do to actually pay these taxes."

After seven years of marriage, Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony are divorcing.
In a joint statement to People, the couple said the split was an "amicable conclusion."

"It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."
Lopez, 41, and Anthony, 42, have been married since 2004, and have two children together -- 3-year-old twins Max and Emme.
The couple's marriage came quick in 2004, less than a week after Anthony's divorce was finalized from former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres in 2004.
The pair married in a quiet home wedding at Lopez's Beverly Hills home.
Before Anthony, J.Lo had several well-publicized relationships. In 2001, the singer's marriage to back-up dancer Chris Judd ended after just nine months. Then, she moved on to rap mogul Diddy, and later, actor Ben Affleck.

50 Cent Rejects Young Buck's Debt Payment Plan In Court

Young Buck's long-struggle to free himself from the grip of 50 Cent continues.
The former G-Unit rapper hit a wall in bankruptcy court this week, when 50 Cent rejected a five-year debt payment plan submitted on Monday (July 11), reports the Wall Street Journal.
50's attorneys asked how Buck would successfully manage his business affairs to make enough money to pay off debts as laid out in the proposed plan.
They argued that the rapper "had trouble identifying where he had been on tour, who had booked his travel, how he had even gotten from one place to another," which raising concerns from creditors like 50 Cent, "as to whether any creditor can truly rely upon these claims and projections by the debtor."
One other topic on the table is of Buck's contract with 50 Cent and his G-Unit record label, which he signed back in 2004 ... and is currently obligated to.
Buck previously said he wanted to terminate the recording agreement, but has changed tunes. He now says he'd like to honor the contract, but wants it modified. 50's lawyers say that if Buck does reject their agreement, he would owe quite a bit more to Fif.
"If the debtor defaults under the recording agreement, and/or rejects the recording agreement, G-Unit would maintain a claim for damages flowing to it as a result of the debtor's failure to perform under the recording agreement in an amount believed to be not less than $10,000,000," 50's lawyers argued.
For now, it seems Buck's financial issues will continue.

Lil Wayne Wants To Retire To Focus On Fatherhood?

Retirement and hip-hop stars seem to go hand-in-hand. Guys like Too Short and Jay-Z have said they were going to retire, only to return shortly after. Most recently, it was newcomer Waka Flocka Flame who said he's walking away next year ... and now, is one of the game's biggest stars ready to call it quits? Lil Wayne has been talking about it lately. But, will it actually happen?
During a radio interview with Hot 97's Angie Martinez in March, the 28-year-old rap star said he wants to walk away at 35, but then switched things up when he spoke to XXL, saying he'd be "gone by 31."
Now, with the release of a new mixtape and the forthcoming release of Tha Carter IV, Tunechi admits to MTV that he's not sure when, exactly, he wants to retire, but says it's definitely on his mind.
"I'm not sure; I'm not gonna Brett Favre y'all," Wayne told MTV, referring to the former Green Bay Packers quarterback who announced retirement prematurely several times. "I'm not gonna draw it all the way out the whole year: 'We wondering, is Wayne gonna do this?' But the honest answer is I don't know."
If he were to retire, Weezy would have a hefty rap resume and legacy to leave behind. He's released eight solo albums, sold more than 10 million records, and won four Grammy Awards. But, despite all his accomplishments, he says he wants to focus on being a father.
His oldest daughter, Reginae, is a budding performer herself at age 12, and Weezy wants his little girl to eventually stunt like her daddy.
"I'm so settled in my life right now," he told MTV. "I have my kids; they're wonderful. My daughter has her career ahead of her now. I have to focus on that, and I have to put the same focus that I put in my career. ... I want to become a better father, I want to become a better man to my woman, and those things take time. and time takes away from this. So the honest answer to that [retirement] question is, I don't know. Maybe so."
Tha Carter IV is set to drop August 29.

Lil Wayne Nominated For Bowling Hall Of Fame

While he's considered one of the top artists in hip-hop, is Lil Wayne also a world-class bowler?
Apparently, the rapper has been nominated for induction into the International Bowling Hall of Fame.
Weezy is among a long list of celebrities who were nominated by the Bowling Proprietors Association of America (BPAA) for consideration into the International Bowling Hall of Fame.
Others include Michael Jordan, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, and Bill Murray, all of whom have had a role in helping popularize the sport.
While Weezy may not have pro bowling skills, he definitely had been on the lane a few times. He reported reached the finals of Chris Paul's Celebrity Bowling Invitational with help from his partner, PBA Hall of Fame bowler Norm Duke, back in December 2010.
But, was defeated by Paul and Jason Belmonte.
"Each of these 2011 candidates has had a significant impact in helping to keep bowling as one of the nation's most treasured pastimes," a spokesman for the International Bowling Hall of Fame in a statement. "If last year's down-to-the-wire showdown between Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber is any indication of what to expect for 2011, we'll be ready for a fierce battle to determine who is the next star to achieve bowling immortality."
Voting for the International Bowling Hall of Fame's celebrity candidates began earlier this week, and continues through August 6 (National Bowling Day) when the winner will be announced.

Akon Confirms Rumors Of T-Pain Leaving Konvict Muzik For Young Money

Rumors have been swirling for months about T-Pain's departure from the label that made him a star -- Akon's Konvict Muzik. For quite some time now, the rappa-ternt-sanga has been pretty tight with Lil Wayne and the Young Money camp, and when Pain got a custom $100,000 YM chain in January, rumors of his signing with Young Money began to hit the blogs.
However, it's no rumor.
Akon recently confirmed, via an interview with VladTV, that T-Pain is set to leave his label ... but, only after the release of his next album, which would be his last under contract.
"That's Pain's business decision," Akon said of the move to Young Money. "We got one one more album, which is the one he's about to release now. After that, Pain is free.
"He's his own man, his own entrepreneur. Decisions from this point, he has to make them on his own," he continued. "I'm happy for him whichever way he goes. That's my little brother, he gets the support from us."
New York jeweler, Gabriel Jacobs, let the cat out of the bag earlier this year, when he showed VladTV the custom-designed YM chain he made for the singer.
"T-Pain's about to sign to Young Money," Jacobs said at the time. "He better, after doing this. So you see it's all blacked out. It's all natural, red rubies, black diamonds. We gotta put a red ruby necklace on this thing. The pendant is worth around $45,000 and when it's with its chain, it will cost $100,000."
Pain's upcoming rEVOLVEr album will be his last with Konvict Muzik. At press time, it still had no release date.
