Local filmmakers showcases at American Black Film Festival at age 15

It’s a hot summer Friday in Miami Beach. Most 15-year-olds are enjoying the spoils of summer by lounging at the pool and sleeping in late. Elijah Nathaniel Wells isn’t about that life. At least not while the American Black Film Festival is in town (June 19-23). He’s making the most of the 17th-annual festival. Like the rest of the filmmakers, producers and actors, Wells is one of 5,000 in attendance trying to make contacts that will help to launch them into cinematic success.

“When I write a film or think about a film, it makes me feel like that 8-year-old kid again,” Wells said. “I feel like I can write anything and make it something great.”

Its this passion that brought Wells to be participate in ABFF 2013 and spend his summer in and out of workshops and, like many industry folks, hang out in the lounge areas at Ritz Carton South Beach -- where the festival was held-- hoping to rub shoulders with TV and film executives.

Toronto Raptors Considering Name Change? :::: #NBA

Toronto Raptors logo

Toronto entered the NBA in 1994 as an expansion team, and chose the name "Raptors," reportedly due to the popularity of Jurassic Park at the time. But, is it time for change?
According to the National Post, Franchise CEO Tim Leiweke recently suggested that the organization may consider a name change.
"We're definitely going to take a look at it," Leiweke said, regarding the potential change. "It doesn't mean we're committed to it. It means it's a good conversation. I saw those generic uniforms today in the paper... That won't be the uniform, by the way. I can assure you of that. I think we need to have this conversation."
So, for now, the Raptors name will probably remain, but a switch may be imminent in the future.
In the past few months, the New Orleans Hornets have become the Pelicans, which then allowed the Charlotte Bobcats to announce their intention to become the Hornets.

As Kobe Bryant continues his rehabilitation, following surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon in his left leg, he's hoping to return for the Los Angeles Lakers' 2013-14 season opener ... with Dwight Howard back on the team.
The NBA legend tells ESPN.com that he still has to allow time to heal, but hopes he's ready.
"I hope so," Bryant said this week. "That's the challenge. With the tendon, there's really only but so much you can do. There's a certain amount of time that they deem necessary for the tendon to heal where you don't overstretch it and now you never get that spring back.
"So, you just have to be patient, let the tendon heal, and then when that moment comes when they say, 'OK, we can take off the regulator so to speak and now it's on you to train as hard as you can to get back to where you want to be,' that's going to be a good day."
Additionally, with Dwight Howard becoming a free agent, people want to know how Kobe feels about the Lakers' prospects of bringing the big man back. While reports say Howard has a strong interest in the Houston Rockets, and other teams are expected to court him, Kobe says he's in no rush to pitch him. Instead, he says he wants Howard to "do his due diligence".
"We all want him here," said Kobe. "But then, that's when the selling begins [after Howard is courted by other teams]. You don't start the selling process right before he goes and does all this stuff. You want to get the last word. You want to have the final word and the closing argument.
"I'll give him a little opening statement, but then I have to make sure I have the final word."
With, or without Howard, Kobe says the Lakers always find a way to compete. "This franchise is a franchise that you really don't have to worry about too much, because no matter what happens, whether it's a year from now, two years from now, whatever the case may be, they're always going to find a way to have an impact on this league," Bryant said.

Lil Durk mugshot

Chief Keef associate Lil Durk, who recently signed to French Montana's Coke Boys imprint, is currently sitting in a Chicago area jail after being caught with a handgun.
According to DNAinfo, the 20-year old rapper (real name: Durk D. Banks) was standing near a car at around 3 am Wednesday morning (June 5) in Englewood, when police pulled up to investigate a call of a man with a gun.

He was subsequently arrested, and charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and is expected in bond court Thursday (June 6).

Karl Malone Leaves Michael Jordan Off His All-Time Starting Five :::: #NBA

Michael Jordan and Karl Malone

When asked would be the starting five of their all-time best NBA team, most people would automatically name the great Michael Jordan as their first pick. But, some NBA legends wouldn't.
Phil Jackson recently said he'd choose Bill Russell as his top pick, simply from the amount of championships under his belt. And most recently, when asked a similar question, NBA legend Karl Malone left MJ off his starting five altogether.
During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Malone named: John Stockton and Oscar Robertson as his guards, Wilt Chamberlain at center, LeBron at power forward and Scottie Pippen at small forward. That's right: no Jordan... at all.
"Scottie Pippen led the team in every statistical category while he was there without Michael Jordan," Malone explained. "That's why I have to put him there. So now you know."
One note, if you didn't notice, Malone didn't name himself.... and he did say the exactly same thing during an interview in 2012.

Flo-Rida’s Manager, Freezy, Makes Statement About His “Game 7″ Ejection

Flo Rida’s manager Lee Prince, or better known to everybody in the industry as “Freezy”, was ejected from Game Seven of the Miami Heat’s series against the Pacers for talking shit to the Pacers’ Pendergraph for pushing Norris Cole, who’s like half his size. Not only did Freezy get ejected (proudly it seems lol), he posted the above photo with the caption “Fool, I’m from DADE COUNTY!!!” and even chilled with LeBron after the game on South Beach. When asked by MTV to comment on the situation, he said the following…

“The feeling of the Miami Heat win became too much for them, so when they got physical I got vocal,” Prince wrote. “I’m not a fair weather fan; we go hard in Dade County.”

Give this man free tickets for life for being the Heat’s unofficial sixth man. Not many would blindly rep for the Heat and stand up to bullies on some G shit on national television.
