No. 10 pick: Heat select Justise Winslow

MIAMI -- A few quick thoughts on the Miami Heat's first-round pick.
The pick: Justise Winslow, SG/SF, Duke
My take: Heat president Pat Riley needed a dose of good luck and something to feel good about after enduring a month of speculation aboutDwyane Wade's future in Miami. A great reprieve came on draft night, when Winslow slipped all the way down to the 10th pick and into the Heat's lap. Winslow adds the versatility, size and toughness the Heat desperately need on the perimeter. For the second time in as many years, the Heat used their first-round pick on someone from the NCAA title team. Winslow joins point guard Shabazz Napier in the youth movement as Miami continues to transition from the LeBron James era. Winslow is ready to step right into the rotation and has potential to develop into one of the NBA's best two-way talents.

Kevin Love Opts Out Of Cavs Deal To Become Free Agent

Kevin Love and LeBron JamesCleveland Cavs forward Kevin Love has opted out of the final year of his contract, sources told ESPN this week.
The big man notified the Cavs on Wednesday (June 24) that he will opt out of the final year remaining on his contract, which would be worth $16.7 million next season, and become a free agent.
It's no surprise to Cleveland, who expected the decision and plans to re-sign Love, says ESPN.
Additionally, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Celtics are among the teams planning ‎to try to pursue Love as well.
He missed much of the Cavs' playoffs run, after suffering a dislocated shoulder against the Celtics.

Hornets Acquire Nicolas Batum In Trade With Trail Blazers

Nicolas BatumThe Charlotte Hornets acquired wingman Nicolas Batum from the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night (June 23), as they revamp their roster after a disappointing season.
According to ESPN, the Hornets send guard Gerald Henderson and power forward Noah Vonleh to Portland in the trade.
"We felt like we needed some more shooting and we feel like we have addressed that," Hornets general manager Rich Cho said.
The deal follows the Hornets' move last week, where they sent Lance Stephenson to the Los Angeles Clippers for Spencer Hawes and Matt Barnes.
Batum is expected to start at the 2-guard spot while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will remain at small forward.
Last season, he started 71 games and averaged 9.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists, despite a nagging wrist injury.

Scott Storch Files For Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Scott StorchProducer Scott Storch has reportedly filed for bankruptcy.

According to court records (via New York Daily News), he filed for Chapter 7 protection in Florida earlier this month, claiming $4.4 million in debt and just $3,600 in personal assets.

Specifically, Storch says he has just $100 in cash, $500 in clothing and a $3,000 watch.

At one time, Scott was the most sought after producer in the industry, amassing a fortune of $70 million. He also lived a lavish lifestyle with private jets, multiple cars, a yacht, a Miami mansion and an expensive cocaine habit.

In a 2013 interview with Vlad TV, Storch blamed his downward spiral on a "combination of women and drugs."

"I would always be going from L.A. to Miami to New York, to Russia, St-Tropez," he said, referring to his private jet trips. "Costs about $50,000 for a domestic flight, $250,000 for overseas. Yeah, that's an expensive habit."

Rob GronkowskiPatriots star Rob Gronkowski has made over $16.3 million in five seasons in the NFL... and hasn't spent a single dime of that money.
It's true. In excerpts from his upcoming autobiography, It's Good to be Gronk, the 26-year-old explains his thriftiness.
"To this day, I still haven't touched one dime of my signing bonus or NFL contract money," Gronkowski says in his book. "I live off my marketing money and haven't blown it on any big-money expensive cars, expensive jewelry or tattoos and still wear my favorite pair of jeans from high school."
Gronk didn't make a ton of money when he entered the league, after being chosen as a second-round draft pick. His first contract included a $1.8 million signing bonus, and his salaries during his first two seasons were $320,000 and $450,000, respectively, according to Spotrac.com.

Here's how much Ryan Tannehill's '$96 million' contract is actually worth

ryan tannehill dolphins
The Miami Dolphins recently agreed to a $96 million contract extension with quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
On the surface, the extension looked like a huge overpay for a young, still-developing, but largely average-to-date quarterback in Tannehill.
However, when breaking down the details of the extension, it's actually a great move for the Dolphins. Only a fraction of it is fully guaranteed, and the way it's structured buys the team extra time to evaluate Tannehill while maintaining the flexibility to reward him with higher pay if he earns it, or move on if he doesn't.
CBS's Jason La Canfora broke down the extension, noting that in the next two years, the Dolphins are only giving Tannehill a slight pay raise under the extension. According to La Canfora, Tannehill was set to make $18.2 million over the next two seasons — the final year of his rookie deal (2015) and a fifth-year option worth $16.2 million in 2016 that the Dolphins had already picked up.
Danny O'Neil of ESPN 710 Seattle argues that it's best to think of Tannehill's extension in stages. In Stage One, the 2015 and 2016 seasons, the Dolphins are basically paying Tannehill an extra $7 million more than what they had already agreed to.

Kimbo Slice KO’s Ken Shamrock At Bellator 138

Kimbo Slice
The experience of Ken Shamrock wasn't enough to defeat former backyard brawler Kimbo Slice on Saturday night (June 19), who took the win via KO at Bellator 138.
The headlining bout began with the 51-year-old MMA legend taking control by easily shooting in for the take down multiple times.
At one point, Shamrock got into position and implemented a tight rear-naked choke, but Kimbo refused to tap. Eventually, he got free and back up on his feet and ultimately landed at hard right hand that put Ken on his back.
Referee John McCarthy stepped in at 2:22 of the first round to call the fight.
"I've been in this position before," Slice said. "At American Top Team, we trained my ground game very well. I went over a lot with Malachy Friedman and Mike Brown. Tapping is not an option."
The victory marks the third knockout of Slice's MMA career, while Shamrock suffered his 10th official knockout loss.

Official Promo Poster
This Sunday June 21st at 10pm, set a reminder for the premiere of the much anticipated HBO series Ballers, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The show was created by Steve Levinson (Entourage) and is set in Miami.
It falls within the boundaries of being a half-hour dramedy centered on a group of current and former professional football players, as well as their families, friends, and handlers. Created by Steve Levinson (Entourage) and produced by Mark Wahlberg (Entourage) among others, the pilot is directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Leftovers). Dwayne Johnson (“The Rock”) stars as Spencer Strasmore, a retired pro-football player, who is now struggling in his new career as a financial advisor. In his new role, he tries to advise his NFL friends financially and professionally, but identifies with the trials they are going through and tries (in vain) to protect them from making the same mistakes he and his teammates made.
Plot line: Looking at the lives of former and current football players, the show follows former superstar Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) as he gets his life on track in retirement while mentoring other current and former players through the daily grind of the business of football.

Yahoo Profiles West Kendall Native Nick Castemanos…LeBron’s Official Barber

Nick Castemanos Lebron BarberThough we did a feature on the barber that used to cut LeBron’s kids’ hair, Yahoo caught up with the barber from West Kendall that became the barber for LeBron’s hair. The barber’s name is Nick Castemanos, 29, and he started cutting LeBron after a chance introduction by Dwyane Wade in October of 2010 when ‘Bron was fresh into town before his four years as a Miami Heat player. And since then, he was an offe
red a full-time job by LeBron that required Nick to move to Cleveland. Did he take it? Well, he just moved in to his Cleveland apartment this past week so that pretty much settles it that he did. Click below to read the rest of the story which features an inside look into what it takes to be a celebrity barber. Nick also drops some behind the scenes and insight and some info regarding LeBron’s recovery after crashing his head (and getting some deep cuts in the process) into some sideline cameras during Game 04 of the NBA Finals.

  • “LeBron said, ‘Hey Nick, I really think you should come to Cleveland to work for me,’ ” Castemanos said. “I didn’t give him an immediate yes or no. But his mom said, ‘You better take it.’ “
  • “LeBron is very tedious about how his hair is cut,” said Castemanos, who has been a professional barber for 11 years. “The beard is the No. 1 thing. He leaves the top up to me. I leave him less bald. He’s my guy.
  • “With LeBron, you got to earn it,” Castemanos said. “If he likes you, that means you’ve earned it. He’s seen it all. He’s my toughest client. But it’s a challenge and an opportunity that I wanted.
  • “I was a little star struck at first,” Castemanos said. “But LeBron was very cool and welcoming. And this was after going through a lot of scrutiny for coming to Miami.”
  • “We get in little arguments here and there. He nicknamed me, ‘Sucka.’ He’s like a big brother to me.”
