The ESPY’s went down in Los Angeles last night and the Miami Heat, and LeBron James racked up multiple awards for their incredible year of success. LeBron and crew were looking dapper accepting their recognitions in front of their peers. Just another sign that despite the hate they get, real recognizes real. Here are the categories in which they won:
BEST MALE ATHLETE: LeBron James
BEST TEAM: Miami Heat
BEST GAME: Miami Heat vs. Spurs, Game 6 NBA Finals (where Ray Allen hit “the shot”)

Pitbull Helping Build New Charter School In Little Havana

pitbull-2014
Pitbull is bringing his fame and his fortune back to the community that started it all for him. He’s helping build a school in Little Havana called SLAM, which stands for Sports Leadership and Management, a school that will have a relationship with the Miami Marlins and will focus on sports management.
Privately run public schools, charter schools are becoming increasingly common and accepted, though they were initially resisted by Democrats. But as blacks and Hispanics, who tend to vote Democratic, increasingly turn to charter schools as a quasi-private alternative to public schools, some of the partisan opposition has given way.
State Rep. Eric Fresen, a Miami Republican who has family and financial ties to Academica, said the rapper’s support is based on his personal experience.
“Armando is a family friend and, more importantly, has three children in high-performing charter schools and believes in them,” Fresen said in a written statement.
“He thought the sports theme was a great hook to get kids engaged in education, especially in Little Havana, so he offered to help promote and brand it,” Fresen added. “There is no financial motivation. He’s very rich on his own right already.”
In Washington, Pitbull sounded like the typical charter-school booster. He told the conference that schools like SLAM, in his old neighborhood, give a chance to kids who otherwise don’t get them.
“I constantly gave a wrong address to go to a better school,” he told WUSA. “I don’t want anyone in America to have to lie about where they live.”

#Taxfraud 'queen' #sentenced to #21years ::::; #IntheNews

TAMPA - When Rashia Wilson taunted authorities on Facebook that she was the "queen" of tax refund fraud and that authorities would never catch her, she was in the grips of mental illness, her lawyer told a judge Tuesday.

defense attorney Mark O'Brien, who said a widely publicized picture of Wilson wearing a blonde wig and hoisting wads of cash "is a result of her mental illness."

"No one's making fun of his client," responded Assistant U.S. Attorney Mandy Riedel. People are "pointing out the facts that she put into the media." What's easy, the prosecutor said, is "to get a job and live within your means."

O'Brien implored U.S. District Judge James Moody to sentence Wilson to 10 to 15 years in prison, and not a longer sentence as called for under federal guidelines.

But Moody was unmoved. "She knew what she was doing was wrong," he said. "She reveled in the fact that she was doing wrong."

Here’s what the Cost Of Living In Miami looks like for 2013… :::: #MiamiNews

cost-of-living-in-miami
The Economic Policy Institute just released their estimates of what the cost of living is in Miami.
For a two-parent, one-child family living in the Miami-Miami-Beach-Kendall metro area, that family needs to earn $60,168 a year. And obviously, the more kids, the higher that figure becomes. Or if its a single-parent household, the smaller the number becomes.
EPI also noted that the median household income in Miami-Dade is about $47,500 (as of 2012), which means that most families are living under the study’s calculations. But below is what a typical budget looks like for that two-parent and one-child model:

They come from different backgrounds and different walks of life but they all have one thing in common: they are committed to LeBron’s Wheels for Ed kids and will be training hard to make his kids proud. This band is dedicated to the Foundation’s forty runners and to everyone else who has made a commitment.

Miami Heat Face Up To $33 Million Luxury Tax By The NBA For The 2013-2014 Season :::: #NBA

miamiheat-salarycap
Well, for 2013-2014, the roster is almost full for the Heat (minus Juwan Howard). And according the Miami Herald, that puts the Heat’s payroll at about $88 million, which is above the $71.758 million threshold. And what all that means is that the Heat can face up to a $33 million luxury tax if things remain intact, and do not amnesty Mike Miller or Joel Anthony or use their mid-level exception. If they amnesty Miller, that’s an automatic $17 mill that they save.  $10 million if they amnesty Joel Anthony.
For the 2012-2013 season, the Heat paid $13.3 million in taxes, just behind the Lakers.
That’s a lot of money for Mista’ Arison and his fam to pump out to keep the team in tact. Let’s hope they’re able to crunch the numbers and make it all work for the seasons to come..

Ace Hood Explains His Rolex Falling Apart On Live TV at the BET Awards

acehood-rolex-drama
Ace Hood caught a little negative publicity and social media attention when his Rolex fell apart on live TV during the red carpet festivities at the BET Awards this past Sunday night. While next to Bow Wow and Angela Simmons, his gold Rolex not only fell apart, but the cameraman zoomed in extra close to see Ace try to screw it back on with little success. Ace Hood passed by Power 106 in Los Angeles to discuss the fiasco-ness of it all.
“When you spend so much money on a watch, certain things are not supposed to happen. My jeweler, I definitely had to fire the jeweler. He going through it, man.
I spent $60,000 on that watch, man. I was just as shocked as everybody else was when it did happen. It never happened to any of my other watches or anything. I looked up. I ain’t even know what it was. I figured it was my bracelet. It wasn’t no thing, though. For it to happen right then in that moment, I was like, ‘You could have happened anywhere else. I just performed. I just ripped down the stage, everything. But you chose to let it be there,’ that’s how I know the Devil be working.”
