Master P Passes The No Limit Legacy, Torch To His Son Romeo

Master P, today known professionally as P. Miller, is a southern hip-hop pioneer and one of the most successful hip-hop entrepreneurs in the game's history. In 1990, the New Orleans native launched No Limit Records. Eventually, the label become so successful, he earned a spot on Forbes' Highest Paid Entertainers list in the mid-90s making as much as $56.5 million one year.
Today, Miller is focused on philanthropy, but was recently honored by VH1's Hip-Hop Honors where his son Romeo Miller performed to honor his father.
The Miller camp sent over this email, revealing that Romeo will be carrying on the No Limit legacy while Master P tackles other issues. In this letter by Romeo, he explains what's been going on with him and what's in the future:
My dad passed the No Limit torch to me and I'm prepared to continue his legacy and make the next generation better. I've seen family and friends turn on each other behind money. Most African American athletes and entertainers make money for a few years, but lose it due to lack of education and financial literacy. And I've been groomed to break that cycle. My dad gave me four things that most parents don't give their kids: education, time, love, and shared experiences whether good or bad. I've seen life through my father's eyes, that's why I'm focused and prepared. I know it's my time to take over in this entertainment business, but more importantly, I realize that I must continue my education at USC.
My dad taught me that people will love you when you're up and hate you when you're down. The music business has changed. If you want to make it in this game, you have to do viral marketing. The Internet is a new form of revenue, but truly connecting to your fans will give you longevity.

Master P Joins L.A. Mayor Antonio Villarigosa, Others in ‘Green’ Effort To Plant One Million Trees

P. Miller, formerly known as Master P, is going green. And, as a part of his green lifestyle, he joined an initiative earlier this month, alongside the likes of L.A. Mayor Antonio Villarigosa, to plant one million trees in the city of Los Angeles.
The project's main goal, which was sponsored by Fiji Water, is to help reduce global warming.
P, who in recent years has switched his focus to philanthropy, addressed hundreds of volunteers and the media on their mission and purpose of planting trees on May 1st at El Camino High School, where everyone involved gathered to make a difference.
The music industry veteran even got a chance to name his first tree, alongside his team helper actress Daniella Monet, naming it "Hope".
With his involvement, Miller hopes other celebrities will join the movement to help bring awareness to this initiative.
The concept is based on the idea of more trees in an area can help create a canopy effect for the city, which in turn will help keep the city cooler by providing shade, reducing energy consumption and increasing water retention in the city.
P says the project's benefits will reap for generations, hundreds of years to come.

Rapper-turned-philanthropist, Master P (pka P. Miller) recently revealed plans for a benefit concert for the young victims of the recent Haiti earthquake.

The upcoming concert is set to take place during Super Bowl Weekend, and will assist in rebuilding the country's schools through the I Heart Haiti Kids organization.

As a native of New Orleans, P witness disaster of Hurricane Katrina did to his city, and has since dedicated much of his time towards humanitarian efforts.

"Seeing the process that the Hurricane Katrina victim kids have gone through, I understand the importance of the immediate need to help start the recovering and rebuilding process for education and getting kids back into the school system," Miller explained. Master P Continues Goal of Helping One Million of Nation’s Less Fortunate

P. Miller, also known in the rap world as Master P, visited kids at the Save Our Kids youth function in Southern California recently, speaking to both youth and their parents about issues plaguing the inner-city communities.
During the visit, he discussed the increasing number of youth deaths, incarcerations, gang violence and the lack of education.
The first question asked by one of the teens, "Why so many rappers and pro-athletes make it out and don't come back to help the hood?"
Below was P. Miller's response:
We have to take care of the hood ourselves and stop waiting for some celebrity or pro-athlete to come back and save us. I made it out. If one of you make it out, it's important for you not to forget where you came from and always come back to help the next generation. That's the reason that I'm here today because I really care about inspiring the next generation. I want to see more of our youth be successful, educated, stay out of jail, and live longer.
First of all, we have to stop being angry, blaming others or the system for our situation and things we can't control. Just the other day, I bought 20K worth of Nintendo Wii games for underprivileged kids. I told the manager at the store, what we were buying it for and he still wouldn't give us a discount. I could have gotten upset, but it wouldn't have benefited anyone. Let's stop being angry at things we can't control.
If we believe in God, be thankful for what we do have, just do our part by doing what we can, we'll be alright. A promoter offered me 500K to host a party promoting an alcoholic beverage. I told him that I don't drink. I looked him in the eye and asked if his company would make a donation of 50K to underprivileged kids for the holiday or buy gifts for them. I even invited him to come to some of our events to meet some of the people that are probably buying his product. I told him that our organization's mission is to reach at least one million underprivileged kids for the holidays. I explained that he could show them that he was responsible and that he is doing something good too. But, when he realized that I was not going to promote his alcoholic beverage, he told me that helping underprivileged kids wasn't in the budget. I didn't get angry. It just made me realize that the hood is not in the budget. There's no stimulus plan for us.
Just the other day, I received a letter from a foundation in Chicago that is located in the hood and they're actually hands-on in some of the highest crime communities. Their program keeps kids off the streets, out of gangs, teaching them how to be responsible and expressing the importance of education. Due to the economy, they can't afford to pay their employees or the rent for their facilities. I received the same kind of letters from other foundations and churches in Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Houston. These organizations are needed in the community and are about to get shut down due to lack of funding. And they are waiting for a miracle, government funding, or for some big time celebrity or pro-athlete to write them a big check. You will most likely read about celebrities "making it rain in the club" than giving back to the community.
If we really want to take care of the hood, we've got to start with us. If each one of us, one person, gave at least one dollar to our community, we could make a real difference ... together, starting in our own community. We could save churches and organizations that help the community. We could also educate our kids, feed the homeless, and take care of the elderly, if we work together.

Master P readies launch of Better Black TV network

Master P x Better Black Television. Been awhile since I heard any update on Master P’s venture into launching his Better Black Television (BBTV) network but AHH has the inside scoop on the latest. While most would consider BBTV a direct competitor to BET, Master P insists he didn’t create as a response to BET.

“I don’t think it’s a response, but it fills a void…it’s going to show people where the future is going because a lot of us don’t want to die gangbangers in the hood. Some of us do want to get older and be around to raise their kids.”

Reason for the lack of news in regards to BBTV is because Master P has been busy ironing out the regulatory issues with creating a television network, establishing his programming and even gathering together a group of high powered board of directors which includes Denzel Washington, NAACP executive director Vicangelo Bullock, Hip-Hop founder Kool Herc, cable industry veteran Professor Sal Martino, and real estate mogul Curtis Oakes.

BBTV is set to launch in 2010. If Percy can really pull this off he will beat the rest of the hip-hop mogul posse (Diddy, Kanye, 50, Jay-Z, etc) in being the first to have his own TV network. Check the website for more details.
