NFL cornerback Rashean Mathis announced his retirement on Tuesday (Feb. 16) after 13 seasons.
The 35-year-old was drafted in 2003, in the second round by the Jacksonville Jaguars, playing there for 10 seasons before being released after the 2012 season. He would go on to sign with the Detroit Lions during training camp in 2013, where he's spent the last three seasons.

During his career, Mathis played in 175 games, recording 636 tackles with 32 interceptions, eight forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and one sack.
Following the recent season, he said he would think about whether to retire or play one more season. He was entering the second year of a two-year deal in 2016, but he wanted to weigh his options...
