After three and a half seasons in Brooklyn, the Nets announced Thursday that they've waived guard Joe Johnson.
Although the news just hit the Internet, ESPN reports a number of likely playoff teams are already pursuing Johnson -- including Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Houston, Miami, Oklahoma City and Toronto.
He can't clear waivers until 5 p.m. ET on Saturday. Also, because he was released by Tuesday, he'll be playoff-eligible for his next team.
Johnson will earn $24.9 million this season in the final year of his six-year, $124 million deal that was the NBA's largest when he signed it in 2010... which the Nets absorbed when they got him in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks.
After signing Johnson, the Nets soon followed with acquisitions of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, in an effort to persuade then-franchise point guard Deron Williams to stay and make a run at the NBA championship. However, the Nets have won only one playoff series after acquiring Johnson.
This season, he's averaging 11.8 points on 40.6 percent shooting.
