Former NBA Star Darryl Dawkins Dies At 58


Darryl DawkinsFormer NBA star Darryl Dawkins has passed away at the age of 58.
A cause of death is unknown, but TMZ reports that a family member called 911 Thursday morning (August 27), and Dawkins was transported to a nearby hospital.
He was officially pronounced dead at 11:19 am.
Dawkins was the first NBA player drafted straight out of high school, when he was selected by Philadelphia with the fifth overall pick of the 1975 draft. He famously broke two backboards during the 1979 season.
During 14 seasons, he averaged 12 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, playing for the 76ers, New Jersey Nets, Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons.
