Idris Elba Training to Become Professional Kickboxer :::: #Sports

Actor Idris Elba is looking for an occupation change. Apparently, he's training to give professional kickboxing a shot.

According to Deadline, the 43-year-old has been training diligently in the art of kickboxing, as part of an upcoming docuseries for Discovery called Idris Elba: Fighter.

The series is a three-part, hour-long show that will follow Elba, as he undertakes the physically and mentally demanding task of training to become a professional kickboxer with plans to compete against a seasoned brawler in a no-holds-barred bout.

"It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to fight professionally," says Elba. "Entering the ring to further test myself as a human being is a challenge I have been looking to take on for quite some time."


During the show, he receives mentoring from former world champions, trainers and coaches, and travels the world to incorporate unorthodox training methods and regimens to increase his chances for the main event.

Shot on location in the UK, Cuba, Japan, South Africa and Thailand, Fighter is produced by Shine North and Elba's Green Door Pictures.

It's unclear when Idris Elba: Fighter will premiere.
