Tupac's Mom, Afeni Shakur, Arrested on Drug Possession Charges

Afeni Shakur-Davis, the mother of late hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur, was reportedly arrested over a week ago in Lumberton, North Carolina on drug possession charges.
According to local news station WRAL, 63-year-old Shakur was arrested on April 16th and charged with felony possession of marijuana, simple possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance.
She was released on a $10,000 bond and will return to North Carolina's Robeson County District Court for sentencing on May 10, authorities revealed this week.
Further details -- time of day and the circumstances surrounding the arrest -- were unknown at press time.
Afeni is a former political activist and former member of the Black Panther Party. Since her son, Tupac, was gunned down in Las Vegas in 1996, she has founded the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation for students interested in performing arts.
The Georgia-based foundation is funded by the profit from her son's unreleased works.
