Based on the beloved campfire treat, Virgina-based ABC Bakers -- who has been making cookies for the Girl Scouts since 1936 -- offers two different takes: one being a double-dipped version and the other being a more tradition recipe.
While the cookies additions are exciting for us Girl Scout cookie lovers, the 100-year celebration is the real news. According to TIME, the first Girl Scout cookie sales daten back to 1917 and the Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where the girls sold batches of cookies out of their high school cafeteria.
Today, Girl Scout cookies are are baked not by the troops themselves, but by commercial bakers, a trend that began in 1936 to supply growing demand. And, they make a lot of money too, with Girl Scouts generating nearly $800 million in sales annually from 50 million households. The full net revenue goes towards the activities of the local troops.
