Freddie Gibbs Freed On Bail, Facing Sexual Assault Charge in Austria :::: #Music

Freddie Gibbs was released on bail from jail in Austria on Thursday (Aug. 18), after being hit with a sexual assault charge.

According to Reuters, the rapper posted bail of 50,000 euros ($56,560) and had to hand over his passport, though he denies the charges.

"We believe this is the first step toward his eventual exoneration and vindication," Gibbs' lawyer, Theodore Simon, told Pitchfork in a statement.

Gibbs has been charged with "sexual abuse of a defenseless or psychologically impaired person," the court said. The charge carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.

The court says Gibbs is accused of spiking a woman's drink and then having "abused her sexually while she was in a defenseless state." The alleged incident occurred in Vienna last year, while the rapper was on tour.

Gibbs was arrested in France in June and then extradited to Austria weeks later.
