Apple has announced that it will be replacing the gun emoji with a green water pistol upon launch of iOS 10 in September, reports CNN.
In light of growing concern over gun violence, Apple revealed it would be scrapping the emoji in its next software update.
The report says that the pistol and other weapon emojis have landed people in trouble, noting that a 12-year-old in Virginia was charged after allegedly threatening her school in an Instagram post that used a gun, knife and bomb emoji. Another teen in Brooklyn was arrested for posting a police emoji with pistol emojis pointing at his head, though the charges were later dropped.
Th gun emoji isn't the only change. Additionally, Apple introduce revamped emojis that show women doing stereotypically male jobs like detective, construction worker, and police officer, as well as new female athletes, a pride flag, and family options for single parents.
