UFC 200 was full of action on Saturday night (July 9), but the big moment came when Amanda Nunes stunned Miesha Tate to claim the UFC women's bantamweight title.
Nunes (13-4) earned a flawless first-round submission over Tate, in front of the crowd at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas during the UFC 200 main event.
"I feel amazing," Nunes said. "Every fighter has something to change [in order] to evolve. I am this kind of fighter. I always have to work to try to make things happen in my life. Everybody knows that I respect Miesha a lot but I'm the new champion."
Nunes was aggressive from the beginning, lighting up Tate with a series of jabs and overhand rights that left her face bloodied, while possibly breaking her nose. She eventually took her back on the ground and secured a rear-naked choke to earn the submission... and become the NEW women's champion. "She caught me fair and square. This is what I have been saying about Amanda. She's a dangerous fighter. I got careless and it cost me really big," Tate said after the fight.
In the co-main event, Brock Lesnar made his return to the Octagon against the dangerous Mark Hunt... and earned a unanimous decision in his comeback.
During the fight, Lesnar kept his distance, while striking and shooting in for takedowns. When he did take him down, which he did several times, Lesnar used his size and wrestling ability to control the action and deliver bombs.
After the fight, Lesnar thanked everyone for the experience, but declined to say whether he'd return for another fight. "One day at a time," he said. "I'm so happy to be in here." Earlier in the evening, Daniel Cormier defeated Anderson Silva -- who replaced Jon Jones, who was pulled after a doping violation -- via unanimous decision; Frankie Edgar earned a unanimous decision over Jose Aldo; and Cain Velasquez earned a first-round knockout over Travis Browne.
