Holly Holm suffered her second consecutive defeat on Saturday night (July 23), with a loss to Valentina Shevchenko at UFC Chicago.
Holm came up short after a five-round fight, where Shevchenko picked her apart en route to a unanimous decision. All three judges scored the fight convincingly for Shevchenko (49-46).
In the first round, the size advantage seemed to throw off Shevchenko, as Holm dropped her with a short right hand. But, by the second round, Shevchenko found her range, as she popped Holm coming in with the counter right hand over and over again, while checking her with an inside leg kick.
From then on, this is how much of the fight went, with Shevchenko cruising to the win.
The fight was Holm's first since she lost the UFC women's championship to Miesha Tatein March, via a rear-naked choke.
Holm has now gone 0-2 since knocking out Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 in November, and becoming an overnight star. Before her loss to Tate, she was undefeated.
What's next for Holm is unknown. But, MMA experts believe rematches against Rousey or Tate could be an option, or possibly a fight with Cris "Cyborg" Justino, who made her UFC debut earlier this year.
