Q&A: Diving into Sega’s “Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War III” :::: #Tech

Dawn of War III is the highly anticipated, next real-time strategy game in theWarhammer 40,000 universe, where Space Marines, Orks and Eldars all return for the next adventure in the trilogy.
Ahead of E3 2016, we had a chance to sit down with campaign lead Brent Disbrow, who tells us about the features and mechanics that make this PC game your next purchase.

For series newcomers, what are we getting into with Dawn of War 3?
Dawn of War 3 is a real-time strategy game that we’re super excited about. It’s set in the Warhammer 40k universe, has a lot of kickass combat, all these great units, and just the game we really wanted to make came alive here.
Is this a great starting point for those new to the franchise?
Yes, one thing we did with the campaign is build it so players at various skill levels can jump in. So, very early at the course of the campaign, we layer in the complexity. It’s scary watching people playing those games where you think you’ve got to be an expert on, but our goal with the campaign was to welcome them [and] build with a fashion of introduction that just heats up as you get better.
What makes Dawn of War 3 the game to get?
We looked at other games in this same genre and there’s a lot of communication that we’re trying to bring into this real time strategy genre. That’s something we’re really working on and believe will differentiate us from the others.
The Eldars, Orks and Space Marines make up the three different factions in the game. Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys or is that up to the player?
Everybody is the hero of their own story. Orks think they’re doing the right thing, Eldars are convinced they’re doing the right thing and Space Marines are genetically bred to do the right thing. Fact is, it’s a grim, dark universe and there’s always war. They’re as good as the players want them to be. Space Marines are fighting for humanity, but they’re sacrificing a thousand people a day to keep a dead emperor alive, so maybe not so heroic. There’s something good about every one of these races and something equally as bad, so it’s really up to the players.
What are some of the features that have been added on?
Dawn of War 2 had just been focused on hero units and so more of a small-based combat and we’re taking the base building, bigger armies from Dawn of War 1 and putting them together. So, we took the best features from the previous titles, and looking at other genres, and taking some influences there and making them better.
Expansions and DLC going to be available as well?
We’ve got an awesome story we’re trying to tell, and we’ve got the three factions that we need to tell it. Beyond that, well it’s a very rich universe. For now, we’re focusing a product that launches with the three factions that people will be stoked about.
A release date for Dawn Of War III has yet to be announced, but you can check out the trailers below.
