Confirmed: Darth Vader to Appear in “Rogue One” :::: #Entertainment

Lucasfilm has revealed new details about the upcoming Star Wars spin-off, Rogue One, most notably that Darth Vader will appear.
In the new Entertainment Weekly cover story, we get confirmation that James Earl Jones would reprise his iconic role as the Sith Lord in the upcoming film.
While another actor played Vader in the original series, it was Jones' voice added in as a voice over.
While it's exciting news, Vader won't be in the film too much. "He will be in the movie sparingly," said executive producer Kathleen Kennedy. "But at a key, strategic moment, he’s going to loom large."

Rogue One is set in a short period before the events of the first Star Wars film, A New Hope, so it's unclear what Vader's status is at that point.
"Within the Empire, there is the culture of knowing of the existence of Darth Vader," director Gareth Edwards said. "There’s definitely an underlying feeling that there is a power -- a dark power -- available to the Empire and that if you overstep your mark, you will suffer the consequences."
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters in December.
