Boom Hoping to Make Supersonic Travel a Reality Soon
Yet to become a reality, a new start up called Boom has jumped into the race for supersonic travel.
The company is currently developing its first prototype, which would allow passengers to travel from distances like New York to London in just 3.5 hours or San Francisco to Tokyo in 4.5 hours... due to air speed of 2.6x the speed of sound.
Boom has assembled an 11-person team made up of ex-NASA, ex-Boeing and ex-Lockheed employees to create the aircraft, which it says will cost the same price as business class.

Virgin Group has reportedly optioned 10 planes in a deal with Boom Technology, valued at about $2 billion dollars. Boom has also optioned 15 additional planes to a European carrier, bringing the total value of the optioned planes to $5 billion.
"We can confirm that The Spaceship Company will provide engineering, design and manufacturing services, flight tests and operations and that we have an option on the first 10 airframes. It is still early days and just the start of what you’ll hear about our shared ambitions and efforts," a Virgin spokesperson said.
