While Super Bowl 50 is the talk of the NFL, there's still a lot of chatter about Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel.
In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, Manziel's father says his son won't accept help... and believes he won't make it to his next birthday.
Paul Manziel tells the paper that Johnny has refused rehab, twice, in the past week.
He says the 23-year-old's family urged him to enter a local addiction facility on Saturday, which he refused. Paul then tried to have his son admitted to a psychiatric and chemical dependency hospital on Tuesday, but Manziel was allowed to leave, despite his father telling officers that he believed Manziel was suicidal.
"I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday," Paul said.
Manziel turns 24 in December.
Last week, Johnny Manziel had a run-in with police, after an alleged incident with his girlfriend. The police report said Manziel and his ex-girlfriend were at a hotel in downtown Dallas and left together after he struck her. The ex-girlfriend told officers that she and Manziel got into a shouting match, and he struck her several more times on the drive to her apartment in Fort Worth, Texas.
A report from WFAA, citing unnamed sources, says Manziel told the ex-girlfriend to "shut up or I'll kill us both" after he forced her into the car. She alleges that Manziel was acting "as if he were on some kind of drugs" but maintained he was not intoxicated.
His current status with the Browns are unknown, though previous reports say they have moved on. In a recent statement, the team said they would address Manziel's status "when permitted by league rules." Sources say the Browns plan to release Manziel in March.
