“Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” Tops Box Office With $101M :::: #Movies

Mockingjay Part 2The final Hunger Games film, Mockingjay Part 2, dropped this week... to a massive $101 million opening.
While it was huge debut, for The Hunger Games, it was the lowest opening take among the four films in the series. Starring Jennifer Lawrence, the series kicked off in March 2012 with a massive $152.5 million weekend -- one of the highest openings of all time. Then, Catching Fire opened in a $158.1 million debut in November 2013. Then, Lionsgate split the final book in Suzanne Collins' trilogy into two films -- Mockingjay — Part 1opened last year to $121.9 million... and now Part 2 closes out the film franchise.
The weekend's other wide releases included Seth Rogen's holiday comedy The Night Before, debuting at $10.1 million, while the Julia Roberts thriller The Secret in Their Eyes, a remake of the Oscar-winning Argentinian film, debuted wide with $6.6 million to close out the top 5.

Last weekend's top filmSPECTRE comes in second this weekend with $14.6 million, bringing its domestic haul to over $101 million, while The Peanuts Movie finishes third with $12.8 million and $153.7 million to date.
That's a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of Creed, starring Michael B. Jordan; the animated The Good Dinosaur; and the Daniel Radcliffe drama, Victor Frankenstein.
