Metta World Peace didn't play in the NBA last season, but is getting another shot by rejoining the Los Angeles Lakers, the team announced Thursday (Sept. 24).
The 35-year-old veteran has agreed to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract, reports Yahoo Sports.
The deal gives World Peace a shot to make the team, as he competes for a slot through training camp, which begins for the Lakers next week in Hawaii.
World Peace would be the 19th player on the Lakers' roster, four more than the regular-season maximum. Teams can carry up to 20 players heading into training
camp.
"I think he'd be great in the locker room with young players," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said, before the deal was announced. "But we have to be careful not to use a roster spot too early because we have a lot of young kids."
World Peace played four seasons with the Lakers, from 2009 to 2013, where he averaged 9.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
The Lakers used the amnesty clause on World Peace after the 2012-13 season.
