Kirk Cousins Named Redskins Starting QB Over RG3 :::: #NFL

Kirk CousinsThe Washington Redskins have named Kirk Cousins the starting quarterback for the upcoming 2015 season.
Coach Jay Gruden made the announcement on Monday (August 31), but assured the media that the "door is not shut on Robert Griffin." For now, the coach said Cousins will start beyond Week 1... and that the Redskins are "Kirk's team."
The decision to start Cousins comes amid turmoil surrounding Robert Griffin III, who has been the subject of ongoing controversy over the past week. Reports say that front-office officials and coaches want to trade RG3, but team ownership is against it.
"I have nothing against Robert," Gruden said. "I like Robert as a quarterback, no doubt about it. His future is with the Washington Redskins."

He also denied rumors of trade talks, saying: "There have been no discussions about letting him go or doing any of that stuff. The door is not shut on Robert Griffin."
Gruden commended Griffin, who had entered training camp and the preseason as Washington's starter, but said Cousins earned the starting job.
"Really, this is about Kirk doing an excellent job and winning the job," Gruden said. "Robert is disappointed, as I'm sure Colt [McCoy] is disappointed.
