Former NBA All-Star Kenyon Martin announced this month that he is retiring.
The 37-year-old told Yahoo Sports that it's just his time to "walk away."
"It's been a great 15 years," Martin said.. "Thanks to all the fans that supported me over the years. But a time does come when you have to walk away, and the time is now for me. I'm ready for the next chapter of my life. I would like to thank the Nets, Nuggets, Clippers, Knicks and Bucks for the opportunity to play the game that I love.
"It's been real. Thanks for the love."
Martin is a one-time NBA All-Star, who entered the league in 2000, after being chosen with the first overall pick by the New Jersey Nets.
During his 15-year career, he scored 9,325 points, grabbed 5,159 rebounds and blocked 864 shots in 757 NBA games, via stints with the Nets, Nuggets, Clippers, Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks.
As for life after the NBA, Martin tells Yahoo that he'd like to coach on the college or NBA level. And, also plans to help his 14-year-old son, Kenyon Jr., who is 6-foot-3 entering his freshman year at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, Calif., develop into a basketball star.
