MIAMI, July 10 – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed center/forward Amar’e Stoudemire. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are very fortunate that a proven All-Star like Amar’e has chosen the Miami Heat,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “He is going to bring gravitas, leadership and a hardworking mentality to our team as we look to win another Championship in Miami.”
Stoudemire, a six-time NBA All-Star and five time All-NBA selection, has averaged 19.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.28 blocks and 32.1 minutes in 794 NBA games (660 starts) while shooting 53.6 percent from the field and 76.1 percent from the foul line in a distinguished 13-year career. He split last season between the New York Knicks and the Dallas Mavericks appearing in 59 games (15 starts) and averaged 11.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 21.1 minutes while shooting 55.7 percent from the field and 72.0 percent from the foul line.
Stoudemire has appeared in 69 career postseason games (60 starts) and averaged 20.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.46 blocks and 33.6 minutes while shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 74.6 percent from the foul line.
He was originally drafted in the first round (ninth overall) by the Phoenix Suns in the 2002 NBA Draft and became the first player in NBA history drafted out of high school to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award.
