Nets’ #DeronWilliams Out Indefinitely With Cracked Rib :::: #NBA

Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams is out indefinitely with has a fractured rib, the team announced Thursday (Jan. 8).

The 30-year-old guard, who's been riddled with injuries over the last few seasons, underwent an MRI this week, which revealed a fracture in the left 12th rib. In a statement, the Nets said: "There is no timetable for his return."

Williams suffered the rib injury Sunday (Jan. 4) in Miami and missed Monday night's loss to Dallas. He would return for the Nets' Wednesday night loss to Boston, but aggravated the injury after playing just four minutes and had to come out of the game.

Despite signing a five-year, $98 million deal with the Nets in 2012, the once-prominent guard's time in Brooklyn has been hampered by injuries... and has been criticized for his steep decline.

During his first six seasons in Utah, Williams emerged as one of the NBA's best point guards... averaging double-digit assist numbers and close to or over 20 points. However, in recent years his numbers have fallen off a cliff. This season, he's averaging just 13.9 points and 6.3 assists for a Nets team with a 16-19 record... and are 2-14 against teams .500 or better.

In the offseason, he underwent surgery on both ankles... and just before Christmas suffered a strained right calf, resulting in him having to sit two games. He has been coming off the bench since, with Nets coach Lionel Hollins hopeing that he can regain his confidence.
