Downtown Miami’s Bayfront Park Has Contaminated Soil With Lead

We’ve shared countless photos Bayfront Park in our “Old School Sunday” section through the years and although its relatively small in comparison to a “Central Park” of New York City; it really is OUR central park. The park was inaugurated in 1925 and the amphitheater has hosted so many classic concerts.

Trace amounts of lead were found in soil samples six inches deep. The levels of lead were above allowable limits, yet below what would be considered a high-level threat by the state of Florida.

A lot of the land that the park is built is landfill and may have had illegal substances added to that fill at the point of the parks creation and/or renovations.

Officials are taking note of the readings and will act fast to make sure this isn’t widespread and to find out the roots cause(s).
