Hot 97′s annual Summer Jam festival concert is typically filled with surprises, but at this year’s show on Sunday (June 2) along came drama when Nicki Minaj abruptly canceled her scheduled performance.
The YMCMB star pulled out of performing at the concert last minute, after hearing a negative remark about her music by Hot 97 radio personality Peter Rosenberg during the event’s pre-show concert (see below). He made a remark about Nicki’s hit single, “Starships”, not being representative of hip-hop.

Upon receiving word of the comment, Young Money founder Lil Wayne made the announcement. “Young Money ain’t doing Summer Jam,” he tweeted (@LilTuneChi).
Nicki, who was backstage at the venue when Rosenberg’s comment was made, abruptly left the Metlife Stadium, later addressing her fans in a series of tweets explaining her reason for bailing on the show.
“Had a HELL of a f**king lineup. But we won’t b disrespected,” she wrote (@NickiMinaj). In reference to following Lil Wayne’s orders, Nicki tweeted, “I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against wayne’s word. What he says, goes.”
