Cincinnati Bengals undrafted rookie Brandon Joiner has been sentenced to three years in prison for robbery and drug possession charges, stemming from an incident in 2007 when he was playing at Texas A&M.
The Bengals linebacker was indicted for two counts of aggravated robbery and one charge of felony drug possession in January 2008, about a month after police said he and another former Texas A&M player broke into a College Station apartment and robbed a drug dealer at gunpoint.
Court documents said Joiner and Yemi Babalola used duct tape to bind the man before taking off with wallets, keys, cellphones and marijuana, as stated in the police report.
Then, a search of Joiner's home turned up marijuana, hydrocodone and Ecstacy.
Joiner eventually finished out his collegiate playing career at Arkansas State after being kicked off the Texas A&M team.
His legal team worked out a plea deal with prosecutors that would allow his client to graduate before going to jail. If all goes well, he would be released on parole after six to nine months in prison.
As of press time, Joiner was still listed on the Bengal's website as being on the roster. |
