Buzzing Chicago rapper Chief Keef revealed, over the weekend, that he has signed a deal with Jimmy Iovine's Interscope Records, following a bidding war between various labels.
He previously revealed that the decision was between three different labels. Then on Saturday (June 16), hours before he took the stage at Birthday Bash in the ATL with T.I., Chief gave MTV News the exclusive.
"I've been talkin' to a lot of labels, but I just noticed that Interscope got people like 50, Eminem," he explained, adding that he had also signed a publishing deal with Dr. Dre.
There was word that Def Jam had also approached the rapper, but in the end, Interscope was the right fit.
"They was talkin' good to me," Chief said of Interscope. "They was talkin' like I was talkin' and I liked that. All these other labels, I was talkin' to 'em, but it's time anyway for me and I'm goin' with Interscope."
Initially a viral sensation, Keef's popular "I Don't Like" was remixed by Kanye West, along with Jadakiss, Big Sean and Pusha T. It helped introduce him to a wider audience ... and made him a hot name within the industry.
