For the past five years Heineken International has hosted the Heineken Star Final, where selected global ticket winners can view the UEFA Champions League final in exotic cities around the world. This year they chose a secret location in Cape Town, where guests will be treated to a football feast with VIP treatment on 18 and 19 May.Created by M&C Saatchi Abel, the app consists of a tricky quiz that puts users’ footballing knowledge to the test. But it is the experience of the app itself that makes it so special, which takes its cue from the new Heineken® “Pantheon” advert. The advert highlights Heineken®’s sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League by depicting mythological figures serving Heineken® to tense soccer fans watching a penalty kick involving UCL legends, Patrick Vieira and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Each app question is accompanied by a short film of a soccer player kicking a penalty, set in Rome’s Pantheon – and the goal-keeper is a firey-eyed Minotaur. Right answers see the player score a goal, and wrong answers see it saved by the Minotaur.
Shot against a green screen, the Pantheon environment is built up in 3D, coloured, textured and lit by Motif Studios, who also composed the music. The questions are randomly selected for each challenge, designed to give football fan hours of entertainment in the race to conquer the challenge.
The overall winner will receive two VIP tickets to the Heineken Star Final – an event that promises once again to be the envy of football fans around the world. Challengers can find the app at http://on.fb.me/IrMev7
