Beyonce and Jay-Z become parents over the weekend, when the couple welcomed a daughter on Saturday night (January 7) in New York. The baby girl was born Saturday in a scheduled C-section at Lenox Hill Hospital. The baby's name is Blue Ivy Carter, which close friend Gwyneth Paltrow confirmed in a tweet, reports E! News. Jay's Roc Nation recording aritst, Rihanna, was among the first to congratulate the new parents, tweeting: "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih." Russell Simmons also chimed in with his congrats: "congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z." Beyoncé first announced her pregnancy in late August at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
