Kanye West's charity has closed it doors, suddenly, without a reason, just four years after it was established.
The Kanye West Foundation was established with a mission to prevent
teens from dropping out of high school, and was "successful" said its
former executive director.
But, a reason for its closure was not given.
According to the New York Times,
the news was made public after former executive, Joseph Collins, sent
an email to associates stating that he was out of a job and that the
phone had been disconnected at headquarters.
"I am reaching out to let you know that the Kanye West Foundation
(kanyewestfoundation.org) has officially closed it doors after a
successful 4+ years of programming and events," Collins wrote in the
email. "It has been an incredible experience working with Kanye and the
board to realize his mother's vision and I am honored to have been given
the opportunity to lead the Foundation."
Calls to reps for Kanye were not returned, and the rapper has not commented on the foundation's closure.
The report says that Kanye did not actually fund the establishment
himself. Instead, it filed taxes as if it were a private foundation,
raising the bulk of its money from companies and people with whom West
did business with.
Things slowed down drastically for the foundation following the 2007
death of Kanye's mother, Donda West, which some speculate may have
contributed to it closing.
