Dennis Rodman, Chris Mullin Among Inductees Named For 2011 Hall Of Fame

The crop of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame's Class of 2011 were announced Monday (April 4), and among them are NBA legends Dennis Rodman and Chris Mullin, as well as a trio of coaching legends, reports NBA.com.
The coaches include Tex Winter, innovator of the "Triangle" offense (Lakers' coach Phil Jackson is known for), Stanford's Tara VanDerveer, and Philadelphia University's Herb Magee were part of the class announced Monday at the Final Four in Houston.
"It's cool, man. It's a great feeling," Rodman said of the honor, while Mullin said he just fell asleep after hearing about it.
"I actually went back to sleep, but I slept with a big smile on my face," Mullin said.
In addition to the aforementioned inductees, longtime NBA and ABA star Artis Gilmore, former Portland TrailBlazers center Arvydas Sabonis, and Olympic gold medalist Teresa Edwards also will be added, as well as Harlem Globetrotter Reece "Goose" Tatum and Boston Celtic Tom "Satch" Sanders.
Rodman was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 1986 NBA Draft with the 27th pick in the second round. Despite being picked so far down in the ranking, the NBA star made his presence known. He was nicknaed "The Worm" and was known for his fierce defensive and rebounding abilities. During his career, Rodman earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors seven times, and was voted NBA Defensive Player of the Year twice.
He played for the Pistons for seven seasons, before going to the Spurs for two, then the Chicago Bulls, the Lakers and the Mavericks for only 12 games in the 1999-2000 season before being waived.
Mullin was a sharp-shooter who played most of his career with the Golden State Warriors. He was drafted by the team with the 7th overall pick in the 1985 Draft, and at the peak of his career averaged over 25 ppg in five consecutive seasons.
The 2011 class will be formally inducted in Springfield, Mass., in August.
