(2/1/00, 1 p.m. ET) - Rick James celebrates his 48th birthday today (Feb. 1). James has kept a fairly low profile since he suffered a stroke in November 1998 (LAUNCH, 12/10/98), but he's getting ready to show the world how far he's come. A spokesperson for James told LAUNCH that the "super freak" is feeling much better these days -- so good, in fact, that he's planning on touring this summer. No dates have been set, but James has been working out for the past couple of weeks, getting himself back into playing shape, and he's just about ready to go.
Besides the tour, James has got something else going on -- he's ready to release an album, a collection of new funk tunes tentatively called Booty's Bump & Grind Revue. Like the tour, no date has been set for the album's release.
James looks forward to moving on with his career. He told LAUNCH that he's not thinking about the past, and that he just wants to move on. "I've been through the top to the bottom," he said. "Now it's time to get on up. You know, I'm in a good place. You know, my head is good, and my heart is all right, and home life is fine, so I can't complain, man."
